JONESBORO – The Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics at Arkansas State University recognized its most outstanding graduating students in 2024-25, according to Dr. Jennifer Bouldin, dean of the college. The Convocation of Scholars ceremony was held at the Cooper Alumni Center.

The Chancellor’s Scholar award was presented to Tess Monroe of Lonoke.  The Chancellor’s Scholar is the graduating student with the highest overall grade point average in the respective academic college.

The recipients of the 4.0 Scholar Award were Monroe, Emanuel Cazano of Jonesboro, Marlee Davis of White Hall, Matthew Goodwin of Vilonia, Dena Khalil of Jonesboro, and Zion Loyd of Judsonia.  Khalil also won the Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics Dean’s Award, which recognizes a student who most exemplifies resilience, discipline and strength of character in the academic journey.

The departmental awards are presented to the graduate in each degree program who has most excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Those receiving awards in their respective degree programs (by department) were:

Biological Sciences
Dena Khalil of Jonesboro and Emanuel Cazano of Jonesboro, Bachelor of Science (BS), biological sciences (pre-professional studies emphasis); Isabella Davis of McRae, BS, biological sciences (evolution, ecology and organismal biology emphasis); Molly Borroughs of Cabot, BS, environmental science; Sam Burnett of Pearcy, BS, wildlife, fisheries and conservation; and Faith Stephens of Magnet Cove, BS, biotechnology.

Chemistry and Physics
Zion Loyd of Judsonia, Bachelor of Arts (BA), chemistry; Jeremy Garcia of Cabot, BS, chemistry.

Mathematics and Statistics
Tess Monroe of Lonoke, Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE), mathematics; Victoria Mardis of Jonesboro, BS, mathematics; Willem Coertzen of Vanderbijlpark, South Africa, BS, actuarial sciences.

Graduate Programs
Graduate student awards were presented to five master’s degree students and two doctoral degree candidates. The students and their respective programs were: Becca Lott of Jonesboro, Master of Science (MS), biological sciences; Binh Nguyen of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, MS, mathematics; Madison Friar of Eureka Springs, MS, statistics;  Patrick Dyer of Stow, Ohio, MS, environmental sciences; Raveena Ratnayake of Columbo, Sri Lanka, MS, molecular biosciences; Gaurav Gajurel of Kathmandu, Nepal, Ph.D., molecular biosciences; and Subrata Roy of Dinajpur, Bangladesh, Ph.D., environmental sciences.

The graduating ambassadors for the college also were recognized. They are Lindsay Bateman of Paragould, KenTonya Cox of Poplar Grove, Isabella Davis of McRae, Matthew Goodwin of Vilonia, Marin Hirata of Kumamoto, Japan, Armari Jackson of McGehee, Zion Loyd of Judsonia, and Braden Ross of Nashville, Ark.
